- Inspection visually
The easiest way to tell if the tires need replacement is by inspecting them visually. If there are some of the signs of cracking, missing chunks or if the tread is damaged, it’s time for the new tires. While looking over the tires, also keep an eye out for gouges and cuts along with the objects or sidewalls which are in the tread, both of them which might also be an indication that it’s time for a new tire.
- Tread depth
One of the best ways to tell if it’s the time to start thinking about the new skid steer tires is by monitoring the depth. Once the tire has worn through 85% to 90% of the usual tread, the flats risk increases while the efficiency and traction decrease
- Uneven wear
Upon inspecting visually and doing the measurement of tread depth, you might see that the tires are wearing in an uneven way. This isn’t uncommon as the skid steers often wear one set of tires faster. If you get to see this on time, you can simply rotate it.
- Consider solids
Pneumatic tires are reliable and durable and offer a great ride. But most of the conditions such as rocky, paved or debris-filled surfaces can accelerate the wear quickly that solid tires can be a better choice.
